Speakers

What are speakers?
All of u know that these are devices which produce sound!!!
But we never take care of buying right speakers for us...

Some misconceptions:

**** Some brands try to attract us through watt PMPO(Peak Mode Power Output)...
But guys this isnt a real figure,,,,, actual power can be known through RMS value. E.g If speaker has 5000w PMPO that means that its actual power rating is 70.7***** so next time luk for RMS value

**** People often thing that higher wattage of speaker means better sound, but its not at all.

Before we discuss some important considerations to be kept in mind while buying Speakers let me first tell u how speakers work......

Working Of Speakers:
Main parts of speakers are magnet(permanent), electromagnet and diaphragm.

A electromagnet is placed over the permanent magnet and electromagnet is attached to diaphragm(cone). When electric signal are passed into electromagnet it gets repelled by the permanent magnet in accordance with variation and intensity of signals. Due these movements the diaphragm which is usually made up of some soft cloth/paper starts vibrating and produces pressure waves. These pressure waves are interpretted as sound by us. This way sound is produced through a simple process.

Let us know see what considerations we should keep in our mind when we go for buying speakers:

1. Wattage: See for RMS value. Higher wattage will ensure higher sound.

2.Signal to noise ratio: It is measured in db's. db is unit of sound and gud speakers will have dbs above 85 and extend upto 110db. Usually 90db is enough while loudspeakers have 110db which  we donot need.
Loudness of sound is also dependent on SNR. Snr means how much distance will sound produced by speaker travel when power of one 1watt is supplied to it.
This means that if speakers have identical Wattage but differ in SNR. The speaker with higher db will produce louder sound.

3. Frequency response: It is determinant of quality of sound produced by the speakers. Speakers commonly have frequency ratio 35-20khz. Better the frequency range better will be sound because broader range means that speakers will be able to deliver all sounds wether in low frequency or higher ones.

So definitely keep these factors in mind when buying speakers....

Apart from it u can see THX certification on speakers. THX certification is given to only those speakers which deliver high quality audio. So it can be help in choosing among speakers....

Some main speaker companies: Bose, Audio Engine, JBL, Creative Loghitech, Harmon Cardon....

Main Types of speakers:
2.0, 2.1,4.1, 5.1,7.1 ,single piece
****32 speakers can maximum used to play sound. But mainly we have above 6 kind of speakers in common.

2.0: Two speaker(Gud for laptops, General use)

2.1; 2 sattelites+ 1 sub woofer(sub woofer ensures better bass)

4.1 4 satellites + 1 subwoofer(not very much used)

5.1 2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, 1centre speakers(Provide immersice sound field, surround sound)
7.1- 2 addtitional speakers apart from 5.1 speakers
