RIM launches BlackBerry Curve 9220 at Rs. 10,990

Research in Motion (RIM) has launched a new Curve smartphone in India. Priced at Rs. 10,990, the BlackBerry Curve 9220 sports BlackBerry 7.1 OS, built in Wi-Fi and FM Radio. RIM says the Curve 9220 is the most affordable BlackBerry device in the country so far. As part of the launch in India, RIM is offering apps worth Rs. 2,500 free with the BlackBerry Curve 9220.
RIM's new Curve 9220 has a dedicated key for accessing BlackBerry Messenger along with traditional BlackBerry QWERTY keypad and optical trackpad. With the dedicated BBM key, users can access the Facebook for BlackBerry, Twitter for BlackBerry apps and other social apps in one consolidated view.

AMD bug

A programmer on the DragonFly BSD project is flying high as a kite this week after AMD admitted that a bug he discovered is an actual erratum the Sunnyvale chip maker was previously unaware existed in some processor families. Matthew Dillon, who had been tracking the bug for well over a year, finally came up with a test case in which AMD could replicate the error and confirm there's really a bug.

Mr. Dillon posted a portion of the email, which reads:

"AMD has taken your example and also analyzed the segmentation fault and the fill_sons_in_loop code. We confirm that you have found an erratum with some AMD processor families. The specific compiled version of the fill_sons_in_loop code, through a very specific sequence of consecutive back-to-back pops and (near) return instructions, can create a condition where the process incorrectly updates the stack pointer."

This isn't something most users will need to worry about. While it should be possible to create an environment in other OSes where the bug rears its ugly, Mr. Dillon notes "it took a lot of effort just to find a quickly reproducible case with DragonFly."

There's nothing AMD can do about the flaw in existing chips at this point, but by filing it away, programs now have a heads up and can sidestep this and other known bugs when coding software.

"I'm pretty stoked... it isn't every day that a guy like me gets to find an honest-to-God hardware bug in a major CPU!," Dillon said.

4G coming to India

An empowered group of ministers (eGoM) has directed the department concerned to allocate the 700MHz band for the 4G services. The government plans to auction the band later this year.

“The information and broadcasting ministry will vacate 4G spectrum in the 700Mhz band, which is used for 4G and LTE services,” Union minister Kapil Sibal is quoted as saying after the meeting of the eGoM. It's learn't that the 700MHz band has become an subject of a dispute between the IB ministry and DoT, which repeatedly asked the former to vacate the band. The 700 MHz band is said to be in high demand among the operators as the band requires very few base stations and infrastructural support. Telcos normally are given higher frequency band such as 800, 900, 1,800, 2,100 MHz, that require more infrastructural back up.

Last week, Sibal had said that the 4G spectrum auctions will be held by the end of this year. “By the end of the year, we are actually going to auction 4G (spectrum). That is what our intent is. We have enough spectrum now to share with everybody,” he said.

It may be recalled that the DoT has already begun the process of next round of spectrum auction in broadband wireless space. The first round of auction was held in June 2010, where government had auctioned two slots of BWA spectrum, which fetched Rs. 38,000 crore. Reliance Industries, through Infotel Broadband, was then the only player to have taken a pan-India license.

Logitech Z906 Speaker Bug

The logitech has recently launched its top end speaker Z906 5.1 in India they are priced at Rs 29,990 but you can get them at Rs 14000-Rs18000. These speakers really give gud sound and have lot of contol options but these have got bug. My speaker also had bug, many of other guys are having same bug.
The speakers often donot give output. The contro pod has got some problem with it. The three input lights 4,5 and aux get on all together and speakers donot give any output. This turn ur top end model into garbage. The problem stays even after factory resets. the speakers are masters of themselves. They work when they wish. also when they work the control pod hangs after 15-20 mins of use, lights gets steady but still contol pod works and if u try to restart same bug appears. The speakers get on by themselves even when u turn them off......
I have sent my speakers to service centre, what odd is service centres are available at few places and its realyy annoying to repack and courier these speakers to service centre.....

Logitech has created garbage.... really not acceptable from such expensive speakers!!!

Android V5.0 coming Soon

ven as Google's Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system is yet to fully take off, the news of its successor is already doing rounds.

According to a report in Taiwan's DigiTimes,Google is readying the launch of Android 5.0 dubbed Jelly Bean in the second quarter of this year.

The report, quoting Taiwan-based supply chain makers, reveals that Google is reportedly asking users to adopt Android 5.0 and Windows 8 in the same tablet PC. Software giant Microsoft is scheduled to unveil a test version of its Windows 8 operating software later this month.

While Android 4.0 brings a bunch of new features for tablets as well as smartphones, Android 5.0 is likely to be further optimized for tablet PCs. The report states that Google plans to integrate its Chrome system functions to push dual-operating system designs.

The report further claims that Google will let vendors add Android 5.0 to a Windows 8-based tablet or notebook, giving them the option to switch between the operating systems without a reboot.

While most of the Android phone manufacturers have updated their Ice Cream Sandwich release schedules, it is yet to see how the OS climbs in popularity in comparison to its closest rival Apple's iOS 5.

Among other things, Android 4.0 offers a brand new font system called Roboto; lets users take screenshots without rooting the smartphone or installing any third-party apps and transcribes words instantly into text.

The current OS also features Android Beam, based on NFC (Near Field Communication) which allows two Android smartphones to securely exchange Web pages, contacts, media or even applications.

Aakash's oponent at Rs3250.00 to be launched by Bsnl

BSNL announced it would bring three tablets in partnership with Pantel, a company based in Noida. Of the three, the cheapest one will be sold for Rs 3,250, a few hundred rupees more than the commercial version of Aakash tablet.

The 7-inch tablet - BSNL Penta T PAD IS 701R - is powered by 1ghz processor and comes with 256MB RAM. It has a resistive screen and runs on Android operating software. The tablet will be sold along with special data plans and 3G services from BSNL.

The two other tablets are priced at Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,500. Both have capacitive screen, which has better touch sensitivity. These two tablets are also made by Pantel . Pantel website shows that the company has started a prebooking for all three.

Samsungs New Tv with Voice Recognition

Samsung Electronics Co, the world's top television manufacturer, is going to launch
 ES8000 TV model whic has voice, motion and face recognition functions, as well as 3D and Internet-enabled capabilities. The models, available in sizes of between 46 and 65 inches, will go on sale from this weekend in South Korea before a global launch in March.
The ES8000 offers a dual-core processor that provides true multitasking and seamless switching between Smart TV applications, allowing you to surf the web while you download or use other applications in the background. For example, you can switch to the NFL app to check the latest score, halfway through a movie you’re watching in Netflix. When you switch back, the movie will resume right where you left off.

All these features are packed into a beautiful set that has hardly any bezel, and a fancy swooping stand that really is a stunner. It has a built-in webcam that allows you to interact with the set using your voice and Kinect-like motion controls with a new feature called Smart Interaction.

The ES8000 also features Samsung’s popular Media Hub, offering on-demand movies and TV shows and content syncing between your Samsung smartphones and tablets. Like Apple’s iCloud service, Media Hub allows you to purchase movies on your tablet while you’re in the office that will automatically appear on your TV back home.

As you’d expect, the ES8000 also offers a full 1080p high-definition display, which is 3D compatible. Samsung is yet to announce a release date or pricing, but we expect to hear more in the coming months.

Windows 8 to be launched on FEB 29

Microsoft revealed plans to unveil a test version of its latest Windows computer operating software later this month.

The US technology titan sent out invitations to a "Windows Consumer Preview" event to be held on February 29 at a hotel in Barcelona during a Mobile World Congress gathering in that city.

Microsoft promised to release more information closer to the end of the month.

The introduction of a test, or beta, version of Windows 8 to the public is expected to be accompanied by the opening of an " app store" stocked with mini-programs tailored for the next-generation operating system.

In December, Microsoft began wooing developers for a February opening of its first Windows Store intended to feature third-party applications crafted for computers powered by the Redmond, Washington-based firm's software.

It will take on Apple and Google in the booming market of fun, hip or functional programs built for smartphones, tablets and computers.

New Nikon D800 36.3MP

 D800 from Nikon has arrived, and while it's not quite a D4 in a D700 body like many were hoping for, it does sport a humongous 36.3-megapixel full-frame (FX) sensor (15.4 megapixels in DX format). Nikon says it's the world's highest effective pixel count among interchangeable lens DSLR cameras equipped with image sensors conforming to the 35-mm film size, and we won't argue the claim.

Low-light photographers will want to temper their enthusiasm. Nikon limited the standard ISO range from 100-6,400 with additional support for equivalents of ISO 50-25,600 in Hi2 extended mode, enough to the job done in reasonably lit environments, but well short of the D4's insanely high 204,800 top-end ISO rating.

That doesn't mean there isn't a lot to like on the D800. Nikon equipped its latest DSLR with a new EXPEED 3 image-processing engine that's supposed to be faster and offer better performance than before. It has a new 91K-pixel RGB sensor, and when a human face is detected in the frame, the D800's 3D Color Matrix III technology kicks in to make sure the face receives the proper exposure with regards to available backlighting.

Other bullet points include a 51-point AF system, 3.2-inch LCD monitor, Full HD 1080p video recording, CompactFlash and SD dual memory card slots, and support for USB 3.0, all of which is packed in a lightweight and durable body that's water- and dust-resistant.

HTC Sensation was touted as the rival to the Samsung Galaxy SII, and was launched sometime around the launch of the SII. However, what it turned out to be was just another Android phone, but nowhere close to being the “SII-beater”. However, what has come around the bend now is something completely different, and better. The new HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio is what the Sensation should have been like, in the first place.

Look & Feel

The HTC Sensation XE builds on the extremely good-looking HTC Sensation, and then takes it forward a bit more. In the midst of the black finish, there is a tinge of red here and there - the illumination on the keys, the earpiece grille, the border around the camera and the Beats Audio logo on the back.

Below the 4.3-inch display are four touch sensitive keys - Home, Options, Return and Search. They are illuminated in Red, instead of white. However, unlike the Samsung Galaxy SII and the Galaxy Note, there is no way to customize how these will illuminate - never, always etc. The Volume rocker and the micro USB port are on the left side, while the 3.5mm jack and the power key are on the top. Flip the phone over, and you will immediately notice two LED flash next to the camera. To the right of the camera is the hands-free speaker. Press the battery cover unlock latch, and you realize that this one comes out in a lot more quantity than all other phones! No, you haven’t broken the phone!

We had loved the Sensation for the build quality and the classy feel it offered when you were holding the phone. The Sensation XE is even better than that, to say the least. Even though it is 3 grams heavier.
